As Michel Illouz carefully navigated through the throngs beneath the tall evergreens and date palms at the burial ground in Ra'anana, a city located 13 miles north of Tel Aviv, he thanked people to countless visitors as he could.

Earlier he provided an open call to the Israeli public to accompany his loved ones in mourning his 26-year-old son, Guy, whose remains had been returned from Gaza on Monday.

Massive Turnout

Countless individuals heeded the invitation. They occupied the avenues, followed the hearse carrying his body, and arrived at the burial site in such large quantities that the initial arrangement to conduct the ceremony indoors had to be abandoned.

Instead, the gathering was conducted outside, set to the chorus of birdsong.

Important Moment

This marked the opening memorial service since the remaining two dozen captives were released from Gaza, accompanied by several deceased individuals. A further 21 of the dead prisoners continue to be lost, but at the very minimum this household now had a particular spot to express sorrow and remember their son, according to companions.

Tragic Story

Guy Illouz, a artist and audio engineer, had been shot in the back at the Nova musical gathering during the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023. "So I found myself this morning, driving to Abu Kabir identification center to verify your remains and part ways. They removed the white sheet, and the initial sight I noticed was that smile of yours, that positive outlook, that serenity and nobility that so defined you."

"I made contact, tried to smell you, gently felt each part in your body. I looked at you, I was in private with you, and yes, I felt with absolute certainty that it was you. Yes, I know, Guy-shuk, that you've rejoined our family. You've rejoined your loved ones' arms, to all your close associates, and to the numerous individuals whose feelings your narrative touched."

Family Strength

During the initial segment of the memorial, Illouz had focused entirely on supporting his younger children. He tenderly caressed the strands of his female children, supported his male child, showed affection and gathered his emotions for them. But then his emotions surfaced.

"I'll miss so much journeying together through this country, feeling you, enjoying your artistic creations, resting on elevated terrain and igniting the flame to prepare the beverage the way only you mastered – 'Papa, do you see the coffee froth? You have to boil it gently, let the bubbles form, then simmer it additionally. Stir the coffee with spinning actions' – and then your expression while enjoying the drink and your enjoyment in every single drop."

"Prior to my departure Abu Kabir today, I honored my word. I gazed upon you, inhaled your essence one final moment, and yes, I kissed you on the brow. I was managed to observe your attractiveness even in the situation in which you were repatriated."
