The President Welcomes Relatives of Injured Guard Soldiers to the White House

Former President Trump announced on the weekend that he has invited the relatives of a Guard member killed last week to attend the White House.

He added that he contacted her family and they were “devastated”.

Background on the Tragic Incident

Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a violent incident on Wednesday in DC.

Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Memorials across the state have occurred in their memory.

White House Offer

The commander-in-chief stated he’s proposed a White House visit for the families of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president told journalists. “And likewise with him, recover or not.”

Community Response

Attendees gathered over the past few days at a local school in the state to remember Sarah.

Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of the president’s government program to assist policing efforts in Washington DC.

Remembering Sarah Beckstrom

“She was the individual that teachers hoped for. She carried herself with quiet strength, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged those around her,” the principal, the principal of Beckstrom’s former high school, stated to the press. “She was kind, compassionate and always ready to help others.”

Funeral plans for Sarah are yet to be finalized.

Judicial Steps and Policy Revisions

Authorities have accused a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill while armed.

The incident led the Trump administration to pause refugee claims and temporarily stop granting entry permits to owners of Afghan passports.

Condition of the Airman

The airman, a native of Martinsburg, began his service in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, per the news agency.

He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s governor Patrick Morrisey said on a news program.

Attorney general Bondi told a news show that she aimed to meet with Wolfe’s family.

Impact of Sarah Beckstrom

Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County High in 2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a MP with honor, as stated by the state guard.

“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had bravery,” he told the crowd at the memorial. “Though her time was cut short, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
