The network's Top New Show of 2025 Earns a Substantial Extension for Two More Seasons.
In October of last year, Adult Swim saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the network introduced a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, in the spirit of a animated take of a serene talk show. At a time often defined by cynicism, this show's earnestness struck a chord and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Significant Investment
In mid-December, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Network Praise
The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and championed its peculiarly charming style.
"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about following this lovable family navigate their simple existence.
At the time, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to evolve comedy past its current cynical streak. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.
“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
The Path Forward
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well be part of that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences more opportunities to bask in the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The entire series is ready to watch on HBO Max.
