Rob Edwards and Gary O'Neil represent the early candidates in the frame to replace the former manager as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was dismissed on Sunday following the team's ten-game winless start to the top-flight season.

Furthermore both candidates - both of who have historic links to the club - are among the options to be evaluated by the Wolves ownership.

The manager is currently at another club, which would create a potential obstacle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.

Nevertheless the former Luton Town head coach - who made over a century of games for the club during his playing career - is said to be a leading contender for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the Wolves board as they start the search of hiring a new manager.

Gary O'Neil is also appearing as a unexpected candidate, although he would be a shock appointment given he was released by the club in the previous winter.

The ex- West Ham United midfielder is currently unemployed which means the club would not be required to provide any compensation.
