Pat Bamford Signs With Sheffield United After Initiating Abusive Songs Targeting Manager Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford has joined Sheffield United just half a year following starting insulting chants targeting their manager, Chris Wilder.
This experienced striker, without a club since leaving Leeds United, has agreed to a contract with the second-tier club in difficulty until January. His lengthy career with Leeds was ended by mutual consent this past summer.
Among Bamford’s last memorable actions as a Leeds player included starting abusive songs regarding Wilder during the club’s promotion party this spring. Currently, the one-cap England player will feature for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss looks to pull his beloved club away from the bottom places.
Past Conflict Between the Striker & the Manager
Both men had previous conflict before Leeds earned promotion back to the top flight last season and United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder called Bamford as “a muppet” when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and the Blades won direct promotion while Leeds United missed out in the playoffs.
Making Amends & Moving Forward
Everything appears has been resolved with Sheffield United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, urgently requiring of improvement in attack and Bamford looking to rejuvenate his career.
The song about Wilder spread widely this spring. A repentant Patrick along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the next day.
Chris Wilder commented back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick recently and I have no issue at all with it. I’m not sure about the words used from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and admired him calling me.
“We had 20 minutes and the same again I spoke to Daniel as well and had a longer discussion together and he's a super guy, a class act. Back in my playing days we used to give it and accept it and that’s an integral part of football at every level, including Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with the situation and I told him that to Pat.”
Latest Career Challenges
Bamford made 18 games with Leeds United in the previous campaign but the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC & Middlesbrough player has struggled with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
