Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Attack

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Carrington

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen further activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
