Liverpool Will Not Change Forward-Thinking Philosophy Despite Current Struggles, Declares Head Coach Slot

Arne Slot has revealed that the Anfield decision-makers share his views regarding the team's slump and he refuses to compromise their attacking style in pursuit of a improvement. The head coach conceded that six defeats in seven games was below standard ahead of the weekend fixture with Villa.

Growing Expectations During Tough Spell

Liverpool's coach recognized the scrutiny was intense before his altered lineup suffered Carabao Cup elimination against their Premier League rivals. However, he emphasized that this pressure to arrest the slide is not coming from the Anfield hierarchy or management structure following a summer transfer outlay of nearly £450 million.

"They say similar things," stated Slot, whose team next week face the Spanish giants in the Champions League and play against the Citizens in the Premier League.

Squad Quality Continues Unchallenged

Slot believes his team "have an unbelievable squad if they are fully healthy and fully prepared for the programme we are facing". He said that the recent signings in players such as the German international and the Swedish striker, who is probably unavailable again against the Birmingham club through physical problems, had left the club "in a strong situation for the immediate prospects and the long-term future".

Gelling Difficulties

When asked why his team were having difficulty blending, he answered: "That's not particularly helpful. 'What are the reasons?' I offer insights and people say I'm making justifications. I can list multiple factors why we are struggling for victories or suffering defeats as we do but, as I say every time, there are insufficient justifications to have a results sequence as we had now."

  • Regardless of whether I could list 200 excuses
  • As Liverpool manager you cannot lose
  • The reality is six losses from seven matches

Defensive Numbers

Only Burnley (21) have conceded more clear opportunities from normal situations this season than Slot's team (19). The league leaders, Arsenal, have conceded only two. Yet the manager disputes the defense has been too vulnerable and asserts there is no basis to sacrifice his attacking principles for a more pragmatic style after ten fixtures without a goalless performance.

"From my perspective we don't allowing many opportunities so I see no justification to change our playing style completely but we have to enhance in preventing goals," he said.

Recent Examples

"When facing United, how many opportunities did we allow? Versus the German side when we were leading 3-1, we barely allowed a effort at our net. In each fixture we played until now we haven't allowed a many opportunities. Absolutely not. We do concede a bit more than the prior term but that has to do with us being behind early so you take a bit more risk. But typically I don't believe that our problem is that we concede too many chances. Our challenge is we are unable to finish the chances we create."
